What is a CLCN4 disease model?
A CLCN4 disease model is an animal or cellular model with CLCN4 mutation.
It allows scientists to learn about the function of CLCN4 and to understand how a ‘glitch’ in the CLCN4 gene leads to symptoms such as epilepsy, and intellectual disability.
Why do we need a CLCN4 disease model?
Because, just as a carpenter cannot build without a hammer, a scientist cannot research without a model.
A CLCN4 disease model will help scientists learn about:
- How CLCN4 works in the brain.
- How a mutation or ‘glitch’ in the CLCN4 gene causes the problems we see.
- How we might be able to treat CLCN4 to improve quality of life, health and outlook.
